Finding Motivation to Start

Probably the hardest part of any exercise, fitness, eating program is getting started. What does it take to get us to begin? What does it take to have the will power to go from little or nothing or something we are dissatisfied with to a program that we believe will improve our life and health. At Fifty-Plus Lifelong Fitness we are committed to trying to answer these questions and find ways to convey it to anyone interested. Whether you are 20 or 50 or 80, the motivation issues are probably similar. Whether you are considering exercise or health change for the first time or recovering from an injury or illness, you are basically starting anew. Our goal is "Lifelong Fitness" for all regardless of age. As our name implies, we are also concerned about the specific differences for those 50 and over but believe the differences are small but important.

The Lifelong Fitness Research Committee is currently evaluating how we may conduct a formal research project on the subject of motivation. We would love to get your stories and suggestions in this area. Just write us at research@Lifelongfitnessalliance.org. In the meanwhile, you can review the material in our Library and the following are stories and studies on motivation, with the emphasis of fitness and heath. Hopefully, they will provide you with some insight, some encouragement, and bolstering of your motivation to get moving. Lifelong Fitness has no connection or direct interest in any of these sites but provides them as a reference in hopes one or more may inspire you to be more active. But as you get started, hopefully, and are choosing your exercise or activity, ask your self these questions. Is it something I look forward to doing? Do I enjoy what I doing? Do I feel good after doing the activity? If the answers aren't "yes", you probably want to find a different activity but try until you find you choice.

Humor: But first, one of the best things for our health is a good laugh. So it would seem appropriate to gather a few quotes or thoughts at the Quote Garden. Just hit back on your browser to return to our site.
