The Annual Fifty-Plus Awards Dinner, held Saturday evening, is a favorite
of weekend attendees. Besides meeting other fitness buffs, you'll load
up for the next day's athletic activities
at a delicious banquet. You'll also enjoy an entertaining evening program,
and rub elbows with famous movers and shakers-athletes, coaches, researchers,
writers, event organizers, and others-who have made significant contributions
to our understanding of successful aging through exercise. In the past,
speakers such as running author and philosopher George Sheehan, legendary
Olympic champion Emil Zatopek, renowned marathoner Bill Rodgers, and Boston
Marathon gender-barrier-breaker Kathrine Switzer have entertained guests
at the dinner.
During the dinner we also recognize the individualsour volunteers
and others in the community and on the worldwide stagewho have inspired
us through their dedication to our mission: improving the physical fitness
of older adults by promoting expanded awareness and involvement in active
living.
This special evening reaches its peak with the presentation of the annual
Fifty-Plus Emil Zatopek Award,
an event you will not soon forget. This year the Award will go to Anne
Cribbs, President of the Bay Area Organizing Committee for her effort
to bring the 2012 Summer Olympics to the Bay Area and former Olympic swimmer.
Since the dinner is always a sellout, make sure to reserve seats
early.
